a 12-year-old girl when I wrote my first song, "Big Brown Eyes," for a boy I had a secret crush on. Many more own songs would follow, but from that moment on, I also enjoyed singing beautiful songs by others.
Not long after, I sang "Colours of the Wind" at the funeral of a boy from my school and realized that my singing could offer comfort. I am grateful to be able to sing at funerals, to be a small glimmer of hope on a dark day.
I like singing in bands, combos, and at sessions because music is something you do together.
I love singing at weddings because these days often feel like a fairytale. Life isn't always like that, but it's nice to lose yourself in a fairytale for just one day.
I enjoy singing at parties because I want to encourage people to just be themselves, without worrying about appearance or perfection—simply having fun and dancing to the music.
Heather Nova:
"Life is something set to music
I can hear it when I'm sad
There's a chord in every muscle
Every kiss you ever had
There's a power when you're near me
In our heads or in our bones
I know nothing, but I'm guessing
When we die we're not alone"
Yours,
Charlotte la Die (pronounced "dee")
